In my magazine cover, I created a basic but unique cover to attract my target audience. My group chose a different style of a music genre; the genre our group used is Funky House genre. The reason why our group did not use a typical music genre such as RNB or hip-hop is because we wanted to get attention and make our magazine cover stand out on the shelve. The forms and conventions that I have used to relate to a real magazines covers is, I have used:
Promotion offers – so our target audiences feel awarded for reading my magazine cover therefore hopefully buy the product more often and have customer loyalty.
Poses- I have used this relaxed and friendly pose to welcome our target audiences, to this new issue as it is issue number one. My main cover image is looking directly to at the camera to catch target audiences eyes and attract the reader’s attention to the magazine.
Main sell line- I have used a short catchy main sell line so my audience understands what magazine is about and at the same time the genre of this magazine cover. I have located my main central figure in a particular way so his hands movement required to links to the main sell line and connects to the genre of the magazine.
Graphics- I have used graphics on my magazine e.g. highlight on the special offer to attract consumer’s eyes and stand out to our customers.
Central figure- I have put into my magazine cover a simple young man that is dressed the type of genre (bright purple jacket with an organ cartoon picture) for our cover to make the reader feel part and be together with the magazine.
Masthead- D’ funk in bright blue to stand out and feats with our genre. Short and catchy to remember the masthead as this issue is only out every month. I have used this bright neon colour (blue) because it emphasises the genre.
My magazine cover represents funky house social groups as lively and noise social groups because of the bright colours and the central figure is spreading his arms that emphasises loud and nose young people. The target audience for my magazine cover is teenagers or to be specific, less than 25 years of age as this age would be interested to this type of genre. I have chosen this specific target age because mostly young people are in bright neon colours and they are fanatic fans of funky house music therefore it would be most suitable to aim my magazine at this target audience.
Personally, the media institution that might distribute my magazine cover is the music channels such as channel u, urban because these are the channels that my target audience watches therefore it would be most suitable to a distribute in these media institutes. I have chosen the media institutes because it would reach to a wider range of audience.
Our magazine cover attracts and addresses the target audience in a way that it is suitable. I do this by, example interviewing the most popular funky house artists so by doing this, it would attract our audience and that will make them read on. I finally address them by using a simple young man that looks like a typical funky house addict, which should make them feel part of this magazine. I address and/or attract my target audience in this particular way because I want to build an interest in our magazine.
In this process of creating this front magazine cover, I have learnt to use many programs such as Mac, Photoshop and particular programmes like adobe to edit pictures that meant we could put pictures into other picture to make it look like a surreal picture. I have also learnt that anyone could take a picture any were and use the magic tool to take off the background and put anther background depending on the genre of your magazine cover. I have become skilled in blogging because I never knew that you could insert pictures into your blog and I have done blogging many of times in media that made me experienced.
If would to make another magazine cover I would firstly find a neon background because it will help to design the cover in a simple way so there’s no need to find corresponding colour with the main cover image. In my point of view, the neon background would attract my target audiences tremendously because a neon colours is a large piece of funky house genre. Secondly, I would spend more time to find and put together a real main image or/and central figure, using an enormous amount of neon colours to create an actual bond to the funky house lovers. By doing, this formation design our target will feel attracted and part of the magazine and that should make them buy the magazine based on the front cover.
